Something wrong

Carson Beige knew something was wrong. Something was wrong with him and with the people around him. The people were sleeping on the ground or playing a large game of tag, or at least that’s what Carson thought everyone was doing, because it was hard for him to see due to the stuff in his eyes. But Carson wasn’t thinking about the people or the stuff stinging his eyes, all he was thinking about was finding his mom. Carson was yelling as loud as he could, but he couldn’t hear anything. His mom wasn’t answering him. Carson spent what felt like a year looking for his mom, even though it was probably only a minute. Then he found her, or someone who looked like her.

“She’s one of the sleeping people,” Carson thought as he ran to her side. When he reached her, he patted his mom gently saying “Mommy, Mommy wake up, this isn’t your bed. Come on Mom! I want to go home, please Mommy, my head hurts!” But no matter what he said, she wouldn’t wake up, So Carson cried. “Mommy!” Carson said through tears, “Wake up! It’s not time for bed it’s still morning time!” While Carson was looking at the sky to make sure he was right about the time, someone grabbed him and took him away from his mom. But because of the tears and liquid running into his eyes, he could barely see who it was. All he saw was a tall figure bringing him towards bright flashing lights. Carson cried harder and tried everything he could to escape the grasp of his capturer, but it was no use. He was in the vehicle of flashing lights driving far away from his silent mother. Eventually, Carson felt tired and everything went dark.

Everything was still when Carson woke up, all he could hear was a faint beeping. Carson just laid there awhile until he remembered what happened. He called out for his mom, but instead of his mom coming to his rescue, a stranger walked into the room.

“Hey buddy, my name is Carol, how are you feeling?” said the lady “can you tell me your name?”

“I want my mommy!” Carson cried, barely hearing what the woman said, “where is my mommy!”

“Buddy, you will see your mom real soon, okay?” Carol said, though secretly she knew that if the girl he was with when he was found was his mother, he wouldn’t see her ever again. “Can you tell me your name, please? That way we can find your mom for you. Just tell me your name. Okay?”

“What did you say, about my mommy?” Carson said with his tears ceasing.

“I need you to tell me your name buddy, so we can find your mom and bring her to you. Okay?”

“My name is Carson, now where is my mom!” Carson replied immediately

“All right Carson, I need your last name too, okay?” Carol said compassionately, “Can you tell me your last name?”

“What?” Carson said confused

“What is your last name, Carson? I need you to tell me.” Replied Carol, louder than before.

“It’s Beige,” Carson said after he thought about what the lady was saying “Now can I see my mommy?”

“Your name is Carson Beige honey?” Carol said

`“Yes.” Replied Carson hesitantly.

“Alright Carson, let me see if I can find your mom. Now you stay in bed and I will be right back okay?” Carol said then left with an urgency.

After what seemed like a day of waiting, Carson saw Carol open the door with a lady with her, but instead of seeing his mother he saw his grandmother, and she did not look like her normal happy self.

“Grandma? Where’s mommy?”  Carson asked confused.

“She’s in another place baby, now get some rest, you’ll see her at a different time at a different place.”  Carson’s grandma said loudly, her voice breaking. “Honey, I know you can’t hear very well right now but a doctor is going to come and fix that so you can hear just as good as you did yesterday. Okay, baby?

“Okay, can I see mom now?” replied Carson hopefully

Carson’s grandma looked over to Carol sadly and said, “No honey, not yet.
